I've been interested in fashion my entire life, but it wasn't until sophomore year of high school that I wanted to pursue it. I took fashion classes throughout high school and my senior year I was elected President of fashion club. I took an advanced sewing class that was offered and it gave me the opportunity to work with a professional seamstress in creating victorian corsets for a client. With this experience I was able to bring my designs to life and showcase my first collection in the 2011 Vintage Vogue Fashion Show at VMHS. Now I am currently attending Palomar College pursuing a degree in Fashion Design and Visual Merchandise. I also run a Fashion & DIY YouTube Channel (youtube.com/coolirpa) that has recently hit over 30,000 subscribers and over 3 million views. I make videos that inspire people to be creative and different by personalizing their clothes and mixing up their wardrobe.
The juxtaposition of contrasting textures is a classic design aesthetic for beautiful architecture. My outfit is inspired by the soft curves, hard lines, and ornate details of the buildings at Balboa Park in San Diego. I layered a denim button up underneath a black body-con dress to create a mix of textures between the leather and the denim. By doing this it brings interest and dimension to the eyes. When people think of pairing denim, leather, knit, and metal together they imagine a leather jacket, a simple top, jeans, and chains. I reinvent this look by making it feminine and chic. The body-con dress is feminine because of its fitted style but I loved how the leather cut-outs on top give it an edge. This created a very structured look which is why I decided to choose jewelry with soft lines. I kept my shoes a neutral color to draw the attention first on my outfit and then down to my shoes. The contrasting textures of my clutch sums up my theme and brings harmony to the overall look.
